Coding and Compression Methods in DVB-H
§ The methods of content source coding used in conjunction with delivery via RTP over IP in DVB networks (including but not restricted to DVB-IPDC) have been standardized in ETSI TS 102 005.
§ DVB-H specifies MPEG-4 Part 10 for video compression and HE-AAC for audio.
§ For video data, the standard specifies two possible coding formats:
- MPEG-4 Part 10 H.264/AVC and the Microsoft Windows Media VC-1 codec.
- In a perspective of compatibility with the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) specifications, H.264/AVC is defined as a “strong recommendation” for DVB-IPDC systems.
§ For audio data,
- MPEG-4 HE AACv2 is the default
- AMR-WB+ as an optional second choice.
